We would like to congratulate Caleb Martin on achieving his Green Belt. This is the highest rank that can be earned by a junior student (under 16 years of age) in Jiu Jitsu. He is the first student to earn a green belt at Magnolia Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. We are all very proud of him and feel very fortunate that he chose to train at our school as he makes everyone he trains with better.
"Iron Sharpens Iron"
Caleb started training in 2010. This journey has taken him 8 years. He has been training Jiu Jitsu half of his life. He undoubtedly faced significant challenges over that period and there must have been occasions when he wondered whether the sacrifices and hard work were worth it. He pushed through and did not quit.
"A Black Belt is a White Belt that Never Quits"
The Wednesday after thanksgiving we had a full house in the adult class and with the help of many of the adult Jiu Jitsu students we put all of his dedication and training to the test. Caleb was put through a very rigorous and challenging test that lasted close to two hours. During this test Caleb demonstrated hundreds of techniques, survived an intense shark tank and fought three black belts. The distinction between the word fought and sparred is important here. After holding his own kickboxing with Scotlon Moore he was asked to stand toe to toe and exchange punches with Mike Stokes before finally fighting Scott for his green belt. Battling fatigue he put a knot on Scott's forehead with a straight right hand before taking him to the ground and finishing him with a rear naked choke.
Caleb definitely was put under stress and rose to meet the challenge.
