Students who take advantage of our comprehensive self defense system will be proficient in all of the following areas:
I. Stand up Grappling and Takedowns
We teach Judo throws, counters and grip fighting as well as basic wrestling take downs and take down defenses. We also train closing the distance and clinching an opponent who is trying to strike.
II. Stand Up Striking
We teach primarily striking techniques from boxing and Muay Thai kickboxing. We teach basic, effective, powerful strikes and combination techniques as well as defensive principles such as distance management. Striking is taught primarily in our MMA class.
III. Ground Striking Defense
We teach traditional Gracie Jiu-Jitsu techniques to deal with an aggressive attacker who tries to maintain a top position and throw punches.
IV. Sport Jiu-Jitsu/Rolling
We teach free flow rolling where the emphasis is to develop reflexes, anticipation, creativity, feel, speed and the ability to problem solve on the fly. We compete in sport jiu-jitsu tournaments to gain the many benefits of competition like anxiety and pressure management, unfamiliar opponents and techniques, and tournament preparation and conditioning. These benefits can be very beneficial in a self defense encounter.
V. Stand Up Self Defense
We teach traditional Gracie Jiu-Jitsu self defense techniques that address the most common attacks you might encounter in a "street" self defense situation. Some of these common attacks include standing headlocks, front bear hugs, rear bear hugs, front chokes, rear chokes, various clothing grabs, wrist grabs, kicks and punches. We also teach weapon defense techniques that address gun, knife and club attacks.
