Black Belt - 6th Dan
​30+ years Kendo
Mark is a Rokudan (sixth degree black belt) in Kendo. He has been practicing kendo for over 30 years under Craig Sensei at the Houston Budokan. Currently, he is president of the Southern United States Kendo and Iaido Federation. When Kerstein Sensei is not practicing Kendo and Iaido at the Houston Budokan or at the University of Houston, he uses his JD ('98) received from the University of Houston Law Center to run his own law firm, The Law Office of Mark A. Kerstein.

​Shamina Chang
Assistant Instructor

​Black Belt - Yodan
Shamina is the founder and first president of Cougar Kendo. She is currently a Sandan, is the secretary of the Southern United States Kendo and Iaido Federation, and has competed locally as well as nationally in Kendo. In Spring 2010, Shamina graduated summa cum laude with a double major in philosophy and psychology. She graduated from the South Texas College of Law in May 2013.

t - Nidan
Scotlon is a black belt in Kendo under the All United States Kendo Federation. He has practiced Kendo for five years and is an active competitor. Scotlon teaches a traditional Japanese Kendo class with Japanese etiquette and formality.
